PRESIDENT'S MESSAGE
by
Elizabeth F. Miller, CLA
November 2, 1999

When elected as President of Northwest Florida Paralegal Association, I knew the position carried a measure of responsibility. However, the extent of responsibility came to light at the first Board meeting when last year’s Board of Directors turned over all business to the current Board of Directors. Only then did I realize the great responsibility involved as President of this professional association!

As I pondered over my duties the last few days, many feelings of what I wanted to do inundated me. Basically, I knew I wanted the Association to be successful. So I questioned myself as to what I could personally do to make the Association a success, and I came up with the following: First and foremost, I want to be a leader --- someone that can be dependable and reliable. Second, I want to be approachable – being open-minded and one who considers all facets of any given situation that might come up in the Association. Third, I want to be motivating not only to the Board of Directors and Committee Chairpersons but also to members of the Association.

However, I soon realized that it is not just my responsibility, but it is each member’s responsibility to make the Association a success. How? Simply by each member being involved and communicating with one another. Yes, when members become involved, they start communicating with each other and reap benefits that will last a lifetime within the Association and outside the Association. Therefore, I urge every member to become involved by communicating different ideas and suggestions to me and the Board of Directors, and by helping with the various committees. After all, the Association can be as successful as we make it.

I look forward to working with members who have taken the time to become involved and from whom I can learn a great deal. I am in hopes that as President of the Northwest Florida Paralegal Association for the year 1999-2000, I can be a leader who is dependable and reliable, who is approachable, and who is a motivator. Also, I am in hopes that each individual member will carry the responsibility of becoming involved and communicating with each other. If we strive to carry these tasks to the limit, not only will our Association be successful but also each member will be able to derive the benefits of this success.

Thank you.
